About Wee Georgie Wood (1894-1979)
Better known as Wee Georgie Wood, George Wood was a comedian and British actor by profession. He appeared in plays and films. George was a dwarf, who worked most of his professional life appearing in comic and sentimental sketches. He even wrote a column in the weekly The Stage newspaper.
His relation to the knock knock spoof.
For the music hall performer Georgie Wood, “Knock knock” was the catchphrase. He was recorded in 1936 saying it in a radio play, but he simply used the words as a reference to his surname and did not use it as part of the well-known joke formula.
